Because of China’s family planning policies, I could have never met my current roommate.

This article hits me personally in a sense. My current roommate was adopted from China, and though I do not know why she was put up for adoption in the first place, this article makes me grateful that she was because if she hadn’t, it’s possible that she would’ve never been born, so I could meet her. As we are both in college, she was born during China’s one-child policy era, so depending on the circumstances of her birth, the forced abortions that went hand in hand with this policy could have affected her birth parents. Whatever the case, I thank God that events worked out that I could meet her. Enjoy the article!
