As you may well be aware, it seems that ever since the election, liberals have been accusing Trump supporters of hate and claiming that “love trumps hate”, implying that conservatives (and also the independents that voted for Trump) are incapable of showing love towards others. Now, don’t get me wrong…as I am a Catholic, I believe (like my fellow Catholics and my other Christian homies) in Jesus’ teaching of loving your neighbor (even your enemy) as yourself (the Golden Rule, for those of you who don’t remember)…a previous incarnation of the slogan “love trumps hate”. However, it has been my opinion that many liberals (particularly the famous ones…i.e. Lea DeLaria and Charlie Sheen) have been hypocritical. The mainstream media may not report it as much, but there have been many instances of liberals making threats and spewing hate towards those who voted for Trump and Trump himself. Because of that, this takes away from the impact of “love trumps hate” because liberals are not really following this slogan. If they were, I would think that they would shut their complaining traps for once and have the humility to let Trump have a chance (just like many conservatives such as my parents did when Obama was elected and reelected).
However, also making the news was one of Trump’s tweets today. He tweeted, “Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do. Love!” Liberals both in and out of the media and politics are criticizing Trump for not keeping it short and sweet without reference to his enemies. For me, this criticism is ridiculous because I believe this is a true example of “love trumps hate” compared to phony attempts by liberals to embody one of their latest slogans. By directly acknowledging his enemies, he is doing unto everyone what he wishes upon himself. Everyone wants others to wish them well on holidays, so to give someone well wishes falls in line with love trumping hate. In this essence, Trump is being the bigger man and not succumbing to the hate that his enemies have shown towards him, and that is all we can ask for.
